The 6 GHz Spectrum

The 6 GHz spectrum is already approved for Wi-Fi use and indoor and outdoor Wi-Fi access points are being deployed to accommodate new devices that use the 6 GHz spectrum. When the FCC opens the 6 GHz spectrum for fixed wireless access (FWA) outdoor use in 2023, we’ll see an explosion in deployments of fixed wireless broadband (FWB) gear in that band across the US, as service providers and private network operators will increasingly adopt this technology to deliver better customer experiences and the fastest speeds.

Right now, the FCC is issuing experimental licenses to enable service providers to be ready when the full spectrum becomes available.

Gigabit 6 GHz Fixed Wireless is a Reality

“Upon full commercial deployment later this year, we look forward to rolling out gigabit speed plans in the entirety of our existing fixed wireless service network plus our prospective network expansion for the FCC’s Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (RDOF) program.  Ultimately, this expansion of gigabit fixed wireless will cover over four million households and businesses.” – Bill Baker, Founder and CEO of Nextlink Internet

Cambium’s ONE Network Makes 6 GHz Easy

ISPs are facing myriad challenges, including increasing network complexity, greater subscriber churn and rising competition for talent. To solve those problems, the Cambium ONE Network is an umbrella platform that automatically provisions, manages and monitors different elements of the network from a single pane of glass with cnMaestro™ cloud management. It simplifies operations with a converged network that spans from cloud to edge that optimizes multiple technologies, such as cloud management, fixed wireless (3 GHz (CBRS), 5 GHz, 6 GHz, 28 GHz and 60 GHz)indoor and outdoor Wi-Fi access points, switching, Quality of Experience, LiDAR-based coverage analysis, and in the future Cambium Networks Passive Optical Networking (PON) solutions.

6 GHz Indoor and outdoor Wi-Fi – Wi-Fi 6E support extends the capacity of Wi-Fi into the 6 GHz band, more than tripling the wireless spectrum available. Software defined radio technology enables access points to scale from low density areas to high density auditoriums. Centalized cloud management makes it easy to provision and operate networks that deliver exceptional user experiences.

6 GHz outdoor FWA – The ePMP 4600 6 GHz Access Point series is the fourth generation based on 802.11ax technology. Featuring 4×4 MU-MIMO and dual overlapping sectors, the ePMP 4600 can transmit to two SMs at the same time. This effectively doubles the capacity of 2×2 systems and in the process, increases link budgets by 3 dB with downlink beam steering. Combining 160 MHz channels, 4096 QAM and OFDMA the ePMP 4600 delivers up to 4 Gbps total aggregate capacity to as many as 120 subscribers.
