What: The Michigan State Spartans will take on the University of North Carolina Tar Heels today in the first-ever college basketball game aboard a United States Navy Aircraft Carrier, the USS Carl Vinson, in an event called the 2011 Quicken Loans Carrier Classic. The Quicken Loans Carrier Classic was created as a way to honor the men and women of the Armed Forces and their families on Veterans Day for all they sacrifice in the name of freedom.

For this special event, Cambium Networks, in conjunction with wireless integrator partner Stonecrop Technologies, deployed the FIPS 140-2 validated Point-to-Point 600 Series of wireless Ethernet bridges on the deck of the USS Carl Vinson to enable high performance connectivity and backhaul with carrier-grade reliability. The Cambium PTP 600 bridges have leading sensitivity and power output that enables links to go farther while still meeting the high throughput requirements of Westwood One Radio Stations, Sirius XM Radio and ESPN, the networks broadcasting the event live today at 7:00 p.m. ET/4:00 p.m. PT. Configured for a ring typology, the links will connect two distant locations 1.5 miles across the San Diego port to the aircraft carrier delivering 140 Mbps full duplex.

Due to the position of San Diego Bay, the area is known to produce storms with wind gusts of 20-30 mph. On the flight deck, which is 60 feet above the bay, the gusts could go even higher. Cambium’s PTP 600 series is ruggedized for 99.999 percent reliability to deliver exceptional performance at the most extreme temperatures and under the most difficult weather conditions.

When: Veterans Day, November 11, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. ET/4:00 p.m. PT
