At Cambium Networks our mission is to Connect the Unconnected™. According to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) there are 4.6 billion people that are under- or unconnected to broadband services around the world. India is a key market as we look to fulfill our mission. With a population of over 1.2 billion, with over 50 percent under the age of 25, and only 15.19 million broadband connections at the end of June 2013 (according to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India), India represents an incredible opportunity to deliver affordable broadband services. Maybe we could connect the next half billion people in India alone?
The last time I visited India was 10 years ago. Then, I spent considerable time studying the communications market and drivers with network operators and local partners in Delhi, Gurgaon, Bangalore, Mumbai and Chennai. The one thing that stood out at that time was India’s commitment to wireless technology to drive teledensity rates. In fact by then, India had already become one of the first countries where wireless surpassed fixed penetration.
Today we proudly announced the opening of Cambium Networks’ R&D Center in Bangalore. The Bangalore center will become the third R&D center for Cambium and will complement the development efforts of our teams in Rolling Meadows, Illinois, U.S. and Ashburton, U.K.. Having a R&D center in three distinct geographies brings us closer to our thousands of customers worldwide, and gives Cambium Networks engineers the ability to work on a 24-hour cycle to speed our technological breakthroughs in bringing high-quality connectivity to those who lack it.
We chose Bangalore because of its demonstrated, on-par comparison to Silicon Valley. The breadth of talent available in the area of wireless networking experience is second to none; the Bangalore team will be focused on wireless development for all Cambium Networks products and solutions. We also announced that we will be establishing a local customer support center in Bangalore that will service India and Asia Pacific. The proximity of the Bangalore development team to our customers in India will allow us to maintain velocity as we inject customer requirements into our development plans. Our commitment to the market is to provide quality, scalability, manageability, security at an affordable price.
To date, Cambium Networks has deployed over 4.5 million units in over 150 countries. We will continue to listen to our customers and learn from our installed base as we look to build the solutions of the future that will allow us to deploy the next 4.5 million units to fulfill our mission.
