ROLLING MEADOWS, ILL., April 2, 2013 — Cambium Networks™ today announced that JAB Broadband, the largest fixed wireless broadband service provider in the U.S., is the first to deploy the Canopy point-to-multipoint (PMP) 450 platform in a 1 Gbps GIGATOWER™ configuration to support its network upgrade, growth and maintenance initiatives. JAB provides wireless broadband Internet and digital voice telephone services to more than 165,000 residential and business customers across 13 states under five brands, including Digis, Big Dog, Skybeam, Rhino and T6. The company is using the PMP 450 to provide competitive services such as voice, video and data (triple play) nationwide by boosting its connection speeds and network capacity to support subscriber growth with a highly reliable offering.
“JAB’s subscriber base has grown constantly over the last seven years. In the past year alone, it has increased by more than 60 percent. The combination of acquisitions and organic customer growth we’ve experienced, coupled with increasing adoption of streaming video, requires scalable high-capacity, high-speed solutions to satisfy our customers needs,” said Bret Westwood, vice president of network operations, JAB Broadband. “The PMP 450 and GIGATOWER configuration allow us to quickly put capacity exactly where we need it. We can service a small neighborhood with a single access point scaling to a GIGATOWER based on success and demand. This flexibility and capacity is key to our system-wide upgrade efforts. Our investment in Cambium’s wireless broadband solutions continues to deliver big returns.”
With the PMP 450, JAB can provide additional bandwidth to existing customers and expand services to new markets seamlessly and securely at lower costs. The PMP 450 is a software-defined radio designed to deliver the capacity and performance service providers and private network operators require to meet today’s demanding and growing need for bandwidth.
Comprised of two rings of six access points, Cambium’s GIGATOWER configuration provides more than 1 Gbps of throughput and extends over a coverage area of more than 75 square miles (120 square kilometers). The PMP 450 and GIGATOWER also feature GPS synchronization, enabling JAB to configure dense networks and extend its network capacity with virtually no self-interference. This added capacity, along with the very low latency resident in all Canopy products, provides a cost-effective way for JAB to deliver carrier-grade voice, video and data services while expanding their offerings to new markets throughout North America. Utilizing the PMP 450, the company can offer subscribers a choice of service speeds from 5 to 15 Mbps. JAB is also currently trialing services that reach download rates of up to 20 Mbps and upload rates of 4 Mbps.
“JAB is leading the industry by deploying a truly next-generation network to serve the needs of residential and enterprise broadband customers in both served and underserved markets throughout the U.S.,” said Atul Bhatnagar, president and CEO, Cambium Networks. “The PMP 450 and GIGATOWER configuration guarantee JAB the ability to rapidly scale their network quickly and efficiently to meet the insatiable broadband demands of the marketplace. As the need for throughput and valued added services such as voice and video increase, Cambium will continue to lead the market with breakthrough performance and increased capacity. We’re looking forward to continuing our partnership with JAB as they pursue an active expansion plan to give their customers the wireless connectivity they desire.”
JAB Broadband and Cambium Networks will be showcasing their individual offerings at the WISPAmerica 2013 conference in Covington, Ky., taking place April 1-5.
