CAMBIUM NETWORKS CONNECTS WIKIMANIA CONFERENCE WITH cnPILOT™ INDOOR AND OUTDOOR CLOUD-MANAGED WiFi

Wikipedia world conference in Esino Lario (Italy) connected with high-speed WiFi from wireless broadband leader

ROLLING MEADOWS, IL, August 01, 2016 — Cambium Networks™, a leading global provider of wireless broadband networking solutions, today announced that its cnPilot™ WiFi solutions have provided complete indoor and outdoor broadband coverage at the Wikimania 2016 conference in Esino Lario, Italy. WiFi coverage was deployed by Eolo SpA, a leading wireless ISP in Italy.

Due to the interactive nature of the Wikimania gatherings, where more than 1,000 people meet, discuss, and collaborate during the three-day structured conference, it is critical to the success of the events that ubiquitous high capacity broadband is readily available to the attendees. The geographical location of this year’s event, a small village in a remote valley, made Wikimania a perfect showcase opportunity for an advanced wireless broadband installation.

At one point in the conference, more than 800 users were simultaneously logged in on the WiFi network. The cnPilot system utilized bandwidth shaping features to manage uplink and downlink speeds for all users to ensure a consistent user experience and meet the demanding service level agreement.

“Wikimania is our annual conference focusing on Wikipedia and free knowledge,” says Iolanda Pensa, Lead of Wikimania Esino Lario 2016. “With participants from around the world coding and editing online projects during our event in Esino Lario, we needed to stay connected throughout the entire conference. The connectivity provided by Eolo and Cambium Networks performed perfectly indoor and outside throughout the event and our very exigent community was impressed by it and praised it."

The following WiFi equipment from Cambium Networks was deployed by Eolo:

  • cnPilot E400 enterprise indoor 802.11ac WiFi – 40 APs are installed throughout the presentation rooms and indoor meeting areas.
  • cnPilot E500 outdoor 802.11ac WiFi AP – 10 APs provide coverage in outdoor venues at the conference.
  • ePMP™ 1000 hotspots – 5 hotspot nodes provide WiFi outdoor coverage at the event edge locations.
  • The entire WiFi network is managed by Cambium Networks’ cnMaestro™ cloud-based management solution.

“Eolo has deep experience with using Cambium Networks wireless broadband equipment, and we are always satisfied,” says Luca Spada, EOLO CEO “Whether it is in our service provider network with hundreds of thousands of business and residential customers, or providing connectivity for a conference or event, we have built a reputation of a reliable service provider based on the performance of the equipment from Cambium Networks.”

cnPilot WiFi solutions managed by our cloud-based cnMaestro system provide consistent WiFi connectivity, even when large numbers of clients are connected to the system,” says Alessio Murroni, Region Sales Director, Cambium Networks. “cnMaestro makes the installation easy with zero-touch convenience, and provides a clear view to operations so that operators can maximize system performance.”
